Obverse description At left, a condor vignette; at centre, the Chilean coat of arms flanked by the word CINCO repeated in two horizontal bands across the top and bottom of the central field; at right, two large numeral 5s frame a portrait medallion of a young woman between them. The overall layout follows the classical American Bank Note Company intaglio style typical of 19th-century South American provincial issues.

At centre, an oval cartouche with a pale underprint bears the bank name in two lines of bold serif lettering. To each side of the cartouche stands a large ornate Roman numeral V rendered in an elaborate foliate surround, serving as the denomination indicator.
