Beschrijving voorzijde Central field features the national arms of Paraguay, depicting a five-pointed star within an elaborate radiant glory, flanked on either side by symmetrical palm and olive branches tied at the base, forming a wreath. The circular legend REPUBLICA DEL PARAGUAY is inscribed along the upper periphery in raised Latin characters. The date 1939 appears in the lower exergual area, flanked by small decorative stars. The overall design is rendered in low relief consistent with a pattern striking.

Aanvullende informatie

Paraguay's monetary system in the late 1930s was still recovering from the catastrophic fiscal drain of the Chaco War against Bolivia, which had ended in 1935 and left the country effectively bankrupt. Pattern coinage from this period reflects repeated attempts by the government to find cheaper alloys for circulation issues — aluminium being an obvious candidate given silver's cost. This piece never reached production; the 5 Pesos denomination was ultimately issued in other compositions.
