The Banco Central de la República Argentina was established in 1935, absorbing the functions of the Caja de Conversión and the Banco de la Nación Argentina's note-issuing role following recommendations from the Niemeyer Mission — a British advisory commission brought in specifically to stabilize Argentina's monetary system after the shocks of the Great Depression. The bank opened its doors on May 31st of that year, a date this 2010 commemorative marks exactly 75 years later.
