The Tesorería de la Provincia de Buenos Aires issued this note during the prolonged aftermath of Argentina's 2001–2002 financial collapse, when provincial governments across the country were still circulating quasi-currencies to compensate for severe federal peso shortages. Buenos Aires Province was among the last to retire its emergency paper, and by 2006 most other provincial issues had already been withdrawn — making a dated issue from that year notably late in the cycle.
These notes were accepted in lieu of federal currency for provincial transactions and taxes, a practical arrangement that outlasted the acute crisis by several years.
