Beschrijving keerzijde	The reverse features a large, boldly struck numeral "5" dominating the upper central field, with the denomination legend "PESOS" inscribed below it in capital letters. The year of issue appears beneath the denomination, centered in the lower field. Two symmetrically arranged olive or laurel branches frame the central design, their stems crossing at the base and curving upward along either side to form an open wreath, lending a classical and heraldic character to the composition.

The coin saw heavy everyday use through one of the more turbulent decades in Chilean economic history, including the severe banking crisis of 1982–83 that required government intervention in nearly a third of the country's financial institutions.
