Opmerkingen

The Municipality of Cuyo — a small Andean city in San Juan Province, Argentina — issued this note during the acute coin shortage that gripped Argentina in the early 1940s. Federal minting could not keep pace with wartime demand for small change, and dozens of municipalities across the interior resorted to issuing their own provisional paper currency to keep local commerce moving. These emisiones municipales were explicitly temporary, redeemable against federal currency once supplies normalized.

Cuyo's issues are among the more obscure provincial emergency notes of this period. Most circulated hard and briefly, then disappeared into the redemption process — surviving examples tend to show heavy use.
