The Bohol Emergency Currency Board was one of dozens of provincial and municipal bodies that sprang up across the Philippine archipelago after Japanese forces severed the islands from the Commonwealth government's central currency supply in early 1942. These local boards operated under varying degrees of official sanction — some with explicit backing from Commonwealth authorities who had fled to the hills, others improvised by local officials acting on necessity alone. Bohol's board fell into the more organized category, issuing notes in a coherent series with sequential denominations.
Guerrilla and emergency Philippine currency from this period is notoriously prone to forgery — both wartime Japanese counterfeiting and postwar facsimiles produced for collectors. The S136 designation places this squarely within the documented Bohol series, but authentication against known genuine examples remains advisable.
