Opmerkingen

El Banco de Guatemala was one of several private Guatemalan banks of issue operating under concessions granted during the Liberal reform period. By 1922, that era was nearly over — the Guatemalan government moved to consolidate note-issuing authority and ultimately established the Banco Central de Guatemala in 1926, which effectively ended the private banks' circulation privileges. This 5 Pesos note was issued into that closing window.

The American Bank Note Company contract work for Central American private banks in this period is well documented; ABNC held long relationships with multiple Guatemalan issuing institutions and often reused plate elements across denominations and clients. The S-prefix Pick reference confirms private bank status, distinguishing it from the later government-backed series.
