At upper centre, the national coat of arms of El Salvador appears within a circular vignette. To the left, an intaglio oval vignette presents a classical allegorical female figure holding a sheaf of grain and flowers. The legend VALE CINCO PESOS amortizables conforme a la ley is printed in large serif type across the centre, with the numeral 5 in ornate counters at right. The place and date line reads San Salvador, with signature fields for El Contador Mayor and El Tesorero Gral below. A SPECIMEN overprint and the printer's imprint B.W.&Co.
