备注

Banco del Sur was one of several regional Colombian banks chartered under the 1865 banking law that briefly permitted provincial free banking. The New York printing is standard for South American private issues of this period — ABNC held near-monopoly relationships with dozens of Latin American institutions through the 1870s, supplying engraved notes that local banks could rarely produce domestically at comparable quality.

What distinguishes the S-prefix series from this issuer is scarcity driven not by destruction but by the bank's short operational life. Banco del Sur collapsed before its notes achieved wide regional penetration, leaving many examples in lightly circulated or uncirculated state — survivors of a bank that essentially failed to fully deploy its own currency.
