| Beschrijving voorzijde | Horizontal note with a large ornate numeral '5' guilloche vignette at left. At centre, the bank title 'BANCO DEL PERÚ' appears in bold lettering above a classical allegorical vignette with seated figures; a radiant sunburst device is visible to the right of the bank name. A smaller vignette at lower right portrays a standing figure in traditional dress, while the denomination 'CINCO PESOS' is inscribed in the central text panel with manuscript date and serial number. | Opmerkingen |
The Banco del Perú was one of several private commercial banks chartered in Lima during the early 1860s under Peru's liberal banking legislation — a brief window of financial expansion that preceded the country's devastating reliance on guano revenues and the fiscal crises that followed. The Compañía Nacional de Billetes de Banco, the New York security printer behind this note, was an early competitor to the American Bank Note Company and operated under that name for only a short period before corporate reorganization.
P#S351 is scarce in any grade. The Banco del Perú itself had a short operational life, and surviving note populations are thin across the entire series.
