El Estado de Buenos Ayres was a breakaway state that separated from the Argentine Confederation in 1852 following the Battle of Caseros, functioning as an independent political entity until its reincorporation in 1861. This note was issued during that nine-year interregnum, when Buenos Aires operated its own treasury, customs revenues, and currency entirely separate from the Confederation's financial apparatus — a fact that gives the PS designation considerably more weight than a simple provincial issue might suggest.
The PS430 series is notoriously difficult to locate in collectible condition, largely because Buenos Aires province's early paper emissions suffered from chronic reissue and heavy mercantile handling in a port economy that moved paper constantly.
