Additional information

Cuba hosted the IX Central American and Caribbean Games in Havana in 1982, and this issue was part of a broader commemorative program the Banco Nacional launched in the years leading up to the event — one of the largest sporting spectacles the island had organized under the Revolution. The games carried considerable political weight for Castro's government, framing Cuba's athletic dominance in the region as ideological proof of the socialist model's success.

Two reference numbers in the JMA catalog (AAEE068 and AAEE071) suggest distinct varieties or packaging configurations within the same mascot-themed release.
