| Descrizione del rovescio | Within a beaded inner circle, the word CANTONAL occupies the central field in bold incuse lettering, surmounted by a small rosette or quatrefoil ornament and separated from the denomination by a decorative rule. The circular legend REVOLUCION CANTONAL CINCO PESETAS runs along the outer border, distributed around the entire circumference between the beaded circle and the milled rim. Small ornamental stops flank the legend at intervals, and the overall design reflects the improvised but deliberately bold character of this emergency coinage issued by the Canton of Cartagena. |

Issued by the short-lived Canton of Cartagena during the Federal Republican insurrection of 1873–74, this coin was produced while the city was under naval blockade by the central government. The cantonalist movement fractured the First Spanish Republic almost immediately after its proclamation, with Cartagena holding out the longest — surrendering only in January 1874, by which point the Republic itself was already collapsing. Mintage was extremely limited by both the siege conditions and the brevity of the canton's existence.
