| Opmerkingen |
Begur is a small hilltop town in the Costa Brava region of Catalonia, and like hundreds of Spanish municipalities, its local cooperative issued emergency paper currency during the Civil War after the Republican government's decree of 1937 authorized local entities to fill the coin shortage left by hoarding and metal requisitions. The Cooperativa Bagurense's emissions were purely internal instruments — accepted within the cooperative's own commercial network, not at the town savings bank or rival merchants.
The thick card stock construction was typical of Catalan local issues printed without access to proper banknote paper, and it ages poorly: splitting along fold lines is a known problem with this series.
