Western Sahara has no functioning government with minting authority — the territory remains disputed between Morocco and the Polisario Front, with no internationally recognized state in control. Coins issued under the "Western Sahara" name are produced by private minting companies, typically marketed to collectors rather than circulated. The peseta denomination is particularly incongruous, as it was discontinued in Spain itself in 2002.
