Obverse description The obverse features the Finnish lion passant, the national heraldic emblem, depicted in high relief at centre. The lion, crowned and armed with a sword, tramples on a sabre with its hind paws, surrounded by nine small floral rosettes distributed across the field. The date is split to either side of the lion, with '19' to the left and '18' to the right, rendered in upright serif numerals. The design fills the field to the rim with no border legend, giving the emblem a bold, unencumbered appearance characteristic of early Finnish republican coinage.
