Obverse description Central field bears the elaborately interlaced Imperial cypher of Tsar Alexander III, comprising a stylised Cyrillic 'A' surmounted by the Roman numeral 'III', rendered in an ornate calligraphic monogram with decorative foliate flourishes and scroll-work. The monogram is surmounted by the Imperial Russian crown, depicted in high relief with orb finial and pendants extending to either side. The coin border is defined by a continuous raised bead rim encircling the plain field.
