| Описание реверса | A dignified right-facing bust of Saint Stephen I, first King of Hungary, fills the central field within an incuse oval border. The effigy depicts the saint wearing the ornately detailed Holy Crown of Saint Stephen, rendered with jewelled bands and a cross finial, with long flowing hair and a neatly trimmed beard, and clothed in a richly draped royal mantle fastened at the right shoulder with a decorated clasp. The engraver's signature 'BERÁN L.' appears incuse along the lower rim below the bust. The inscription 'SZT. ISTVÁN' runs along the left arc, while the regnal dates '969 * 1038' are distributed along the right arc, commemorating the nine hundredth anniversary of the king's death. The design is enclosed by a beaded border. |

Issued to mark the 900th anniversary of the death of King Stephen I, this coin appeared at a fraught political moment — Hungary in 1938 was navigating between Nazi Germany and its own irredentist ambitions, with the First Vienna Award still months away. The anniversary provided Horthy's regime a usable piece of Catholic nationalist symbolism, Stephen's canonization and his role as founder of the Hungarian Christian state having been central to Magyar identity politics since at least the Dual Monarchy period.
The .640 fine silver alloy — lower than earlier Hungarian commemorative silver — reflects interwar metal economy pressures common across Central European mints by the late 1930s.
