备注

Eger's 1849 municipal Notgeld belongs to the enormous wave of locally-issued emergency scrip that appeared across Hungary during the revolutionary war against Habsburg rule. With the imperial banking system disrupted and small coin essentially vanishing from circulation, towns and counties took it upon themselves to print their own fractional notes — some on decent stock, many on whatever paper was at hand.

György Joseffy signed as the responsible municipal official. The Ambrus catalog remains the primary reference for this category of Hungarian emergency issues, and many pieces in the series survive in worse condition than this size might suggest — local paper quality in 1849 was rarely kind to longevity.
