| Obverse description | Effigy of Queen Elizabeth II facing right, wearing the George IV State Diadem and robes, as engraved by Jody Clark for her fifth definitive portrait. The sovereign's truncated bust is rendered in fine relief against a plain field, with the circumferential legend reading ELIZABETH II DEI GRA REG FID DEF followed by the date and the engraver's initials J.C. The legend is incuse in Latin, disposed in a continuous arc around the periphery of the coin. |

| Reverse description | The central section of the Royal Shield of Arms, as designed by Matthew Dent, occupies the entire reverse field, bisected by a bold cross into four quarters against a finely engine-turned granular background. The upper-left quarter displays a lion passant guardant representing England; the upper-right quarter bears a fleur-de-lis motif recalling the historic claim to France; the lower-left quarter features a harp for Ireland; and the lower-right quarter presents a lion passant guardant. The denomination FIVE PENCE is inscribed in capital letters across the horizontal division of the shield, flanked by short rules. |
