Jersey's 1983 coinage reform aligned the island's circulating issues with the broader decimalization adjustments underway across the British Isles, but the large-format 5p had a short commercial life. When the United Kingdom reduced its own 5p to a smaller flan in 1990, Jersey followed suit almost immediately, rendering the KM#56.1 type obsolete after just a few years of circulation.
