| Reverse description | The central device displays a composite armorial achievement combining the arms of Her Majesty's Government with the Gibraltar coat of arms. The quartered royal shield features the passant guardant lions of England in the first and fourth quarters, the rampant lion and double tressure flory-counterflory of Scotland in the second, and the Irish harp in the third. Surmounting the shield is a crest of a guardant lion wearing the St Edward's Crown; the dexter supporter is a crowned English lion and the sinister is a chained Scottish unicorn. Below the royal arms appears the Gibraltar escutcheon depicting a three-towered castle with a golden key suspended beneath, symbolising British possession of the Rock since 1704. The commemorative legend FIFTIETH ANNIVERSARY OF THE REFERENDUM arcs above, with FIVE PENCE in the lower field, and the mintmark AB flanking the central device. |
