Obverse description Central field occupied by the elaborate tughra (imperial cipher) of Sultan Mahmud II, rendered in the classical Ottoman calligraphic style with characteristic sere, beyze, and tuğ elements. A rose ornament appears to the right of the tughra. The border is decorated with a ring of small stars encircling the entire design.

Reverse description The reverse bears a multi-line Arabic inscription arranged in the central field, recording the mint formula 'Struck in Egypt' (ضرب في مصر). The regnal year (ranging from year 21 to year 28) appears in the upper portion of the inscription, while the accession date of 1223 AH is displayed in the lower portion. The border is similarly ornamented with a ring of small stars matching the obverse.
