| Descrizione del dritto | Host coin is an Ottoman copper piece (Turkey KM-666.3, AH1255), bearing a Greek countermark consisting of the conjoined letters 'A' and 'T' punched into the field. The countermark is applied to the obverse of the host coin, partially obscuring the underlying design and regnal year. The host coin's original toughra or calligraphic device remains partially visible beneath and around the countermark. The coin displays typical wear and surface patination consistent with circulation use, with the countermark showing clear, deliberate application. |

Following Greek independence, the new state faced a chronic shortage of small change and authorized the countermarking of foreign copper in circulation — Ottoman pieces among them. The "A+T" mark (for the Greek treasury, *Αποθήκη Ταμείου*) officially legitimized these coins for domestic use at a fixed tariff value, a stopgap that lasted until Greek national coinage could be produced in sufficient volume. The host coin, a Turkish 10 Para of the reign of Abdülmecid I, was already well-traveled by the time the punch found it.
