Yugoslavia's 1994–1995 brass coinage was struck during one of the worst hyperinflationary episodes in recorded history. The January 1994 redenomination — which replaced the old dinar at a ratio of 1,000,000,000 to 1 — briefly stabilized the currency under the "super dinar" program engineered by Dragoslav Avramović. These coins entered circulation during that narrow window of relative monetary calm before the wider collapse of the Federal Republic's economy accelerated again.
The KM#164.1 designation separates this from closely related types distinguished by minor die differences, reflected in the parallel Schön listings.
