Obverse description Within a beaded border, a central circle encloses two crossed khukuri (kukri) knives arranged with hilts downward and tips upward, a small dagger or sword depicted above the crossing point. A circular Devanagari legend surrounds the central device, identifying the issuing monarch, with the Bikram Sambat regnal date rendered in Devanagari numerals at the base of the field. The overall design is executed in a clean, medallic style characteristic of Nepalese copper coinage of the period.

Additional information

Nepal's copper coinage under Tribhuvan was struck at the Kathmandu Mint during a period when the kingdom remained one of the few Asian states never formally colonized, a fact that left its monetary system deliberately insular and slow to modernize. The relatively heavy weight of this issue reflects older Nepalese weight standards rather than any move toward metric rationalization.

KM#711 spans a six-year window that includes the 1940 Rana crackdown that placed Tribhuvan under effective house arrest, though the mint continued production under Juddha Shamsher Rana's administration regardless.
