Additional information

The "Mint Sport" designation identifies this as a pattern or proof-of-concept piece produced internally by the Lahore Mint — 1971 being one of the most turbulent years in Pakistani history, ending with the secession of East Pakistan and the creation of Bangladesh following the Liberation War. Routine coinage production was severely disrupted that year, which makes the existence of experimental aluminium trials both logical and poignant: the mint was testing lighter, cheaper compositions while the country itself was fracturing.
