A bronze striking of a denomination normally issued in gold signals either a metal substitution study or a presentation piece for ministry approval — neither category was intended for circulation.
The 5 Pahlavi gold denomination was closely tied to Iran's oil revenues and served the wealth-storage preferences of the bazaar merchant class rather than everyday exchange.
