Tonga's 1984 commemorative program marked the Los Angeles Olympics, one of the most politically fractured Games of the Cold War era after the Soviet-led boycott hollowed out the field in dozens of events — including judo, where several leading medal contenders were absent. Tonga, a nation of roughly 100,000 people at the time, issued a suite of commemoratives across multiple denominations for the occasion, this piece among them.
