| Obverse description | The obverse features the crowned royal cipher of King Christian IX of Denmark, composed of the interlaced monogram 'C IX' in large incuse letters occupying the central field. Above the monogram sits a detailed royal crown surmounted by a cross, rendered in fine relief. The mint year appears at the lower left along the inner border, and the mint master's initials 'CS' are placed at the lower right. The entire design is framed by a continuous beaded border running along the coin's periphery. |

| Reverse description | The reverse displays the denomination numeral '5' prominently in the upper central field, with the currency designation 'ØRE' inscribed in capital letters immediately below, together forming the face value legend. To the left of the central inscription, a stylised dolphin curves gracefully upward, while to the right, a sheaf of wheat or barley ears arches in a symmetrical counterpart, both motifs being traditional Danish heraldic and maritime symbols. The design is contained within a beaded border encircling the full periphery of the coin. |
