Gmina Kołbaskowo issued this piece in 2009 as a local complementary currency — one of dozens of Polish gminas that began producing their own scrip-style tokens following a quiet revival of the practice in the early 2000s. The "nurt" denomination is specific to this municipality, coined from the Polish word for current or stream, a nod to the Oder River borderland the gmina occupies along the German frontier.
