| Beschrijving voorzijde | Facing bust of Heraclius, beardless, depicted in consular robes with elaborate folds rendered in a provincial style characteristic of the Carthage mint. The effigy occupies the majority of the field, with the figure shown in a frontal, rigid posture typical of late Byzantine coinage of the revolt period. A partial legend surrounds the bust, reading ЄRACλIO CONSVλI, identifying the future emperor in his role as consul. The die work is coarse and irregular, reflecting the hasty, emergency nature of this issue struck during the revolt of the Heraclii against Phocas. |
