| Beschrijving voorzijde | Right-facing bust of Emperor Anastasius I, diademed, draped, and cuirassed, rendered in the late antique imperial style characteristic of early Byzantine coinage. The effigy occupies the central field, with the emperor's pearl diadem clearly indicated atop his head. The surrounding Latin legend reads D N ANASTASIVS PP AVG, distributed around the periphery of the flan. The portrait exhibits the flattened, stylized treatment typical of hammered copper coinage of this transitional period. The flan is irregular, as is standard for hand-struck small module bronze issues of the Constantinople mint. |
