Reverse description The reverse is dominated by a large Greek numeral Є (epsilon, denoting the value of 5 nummi) occupying the central field, rendered boldly in the schematic style typical of Anastasian pentanummia. To the right of the numeral appears the officina letter, and flanking or adjacent to the Є is the mint mark AN, denoting the Antioch mint. The design is stark and utilitarian, with minimal ornamentation, consistent with the functional character of low-denomination Byzantine copper coinage of this period. The plain field surrounding the numeral shows the characteristic irregular flan edges of hammered production.
