The date 1993 appears in the left field and the mint assayer mark Mo is visible at the right. The Huehueteotl series was part of Mexico's broader "Precolombina" bullion program launched in the early 1990s, which drew on the national museum's collection of pre-Columbian artifacts rather than colonial or republican imagery. Huehueteotl — the Aztec deity of fire associated with the hearth and old age — was among the earliest identifiable gods in Mesoamerican iconography, with representations dating back to Cuicuilco around 100 BCE.
