Obverse description At center, the Mexican national coat of arms — a Mexican golden eagle perched upon a prickly pear cactus growing from a rocky islet, grasping a serpent in its beak and talons — is rendered in high relief within a chamfered octagonal panel set against a mirror-polished field. Pre-Columbian decorative glyphs in low relief adorn the border of the octagonal frame and the surrounding annular field. The legend ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS arcs along the upper portion of the central panel. Below the coat of arms, the inscription 1 ONZA DE PLATA appears on one line, with LEY 0.999 directly beneath, both struck in the lower exergual area.
