| Aanvullende informatie |
The "Carita Sonriente" — the smiling face — takes its name from a Pre-Columbian clay figurine excavated from Veracruz, associated with the Classic Remojadas culture (roughly 300–900 AD). Mexico's bullion program in the early 1990s drew heavily on archaeological motifs as a deliberate policy choice, differentiating these issues from the Libertad series while building a secondary collector market. The 1993 date falls within a brief production window; mintages for the Carita issues were never large, and the series was discontinued well before it gained mainstream recognition abroad.
