Beschrijving voorzijde Left-facing bust of Sun Yat-sen in military attire occupies the central field. A circular commemorative legend in Chinese characters surrounds the portrait along the upper periphery, reading 'Memory of the Centenary of Dr. Sun Yat-sen's Birthday.' The date inscription in Chinese characters, denoting November 12, Year 54 of the Republic of China (1965), curves along the lower portion of the coin. The portrait is rendered in a restrained, medallic style with fine detail on the collar and facial features.

Aanvullende informatie

Taiwan's 5-dollar coin was introduced in 1965 as part of the New Taiwan Dollar currency system, itself a product of the 1949 monetary reform that replaced the catastrophically inflated Old Taiwan Dollar at a rate of 40,000 to one — a direct consequence of the hyperinflationary collapse that accompanied the Nationalist government's retreat from the mainland.
