At right, an oval intaglio vignette presents a classical female bust in profile, rendered in red-brown tones. The large denomination numeral '5' is positioned at left alongside the payable text, with the issuer's name inscribed in Greek across the upper panel and two manuscript signature lines below the central denomination text. The serial number 'A 000000' at upper right and lower left corners confirms the trial printing status of this note. |

An elaborate guilloche underprint in green and brown tones dominates the face, centered on a large numeral '5' enclosed within a horizontal band bearing the denomination inscription in Greek. The issuer's name runs along the upper margin, while smaller denomination numerals occupy the lower left and right corners, flanking the ornamental geometric underprint. |

The "Nea Drachma" series of 1953 was a direct consequence of Greece's currency reform of that year, in which 1,000 old drachmai were revalued to 1 new drachma — an attempt to stabilize a currency that had been wrecked by wartime occupation inflation and the subsequent civil war. This note entered circulation as part of that redenomination framework.
Printed in-house by the Bank of Greece Printing Works rather than contracted to a foreign security printer, the series reflects the bank's postwar effort to rebuild domestic production capacity. Pick 185B designates the specific signature variety within the series.
