Obverse description Intaglio portrait of Alhaji Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa (1912–1966), Nigeria's first Prime Minister, at left-center against a pink and orange guilloche underprint. A geometric diamond-pattern vignette occupies the center-right, flanked by the numeral "5" in large format at lower left and upper right. The bank's coat of arms appears at upper right alongside the issuer's name, with two signature lines at lower right identifying the Governor and the Director of Currency and Branch Operations.
