| Obverse description | Cast brass cash-type coin with a central square hole. Four Chinese characters arranged around the central void in cruciform fashion: 常平 (Sang Pyong, referring to the Joseon ever-normal granary treasury system) reading top to bottom, and 通寶 (Tong Bo, meaning 'circulating treasure' or currency) reading right to left. The characters are rendered in standard script (kaishu) within a plain, unadorned field, consistent with the traditional East Asian cash coin format. |
