Korea's first machine-struck coin, produced at the Incheon mint with equipment imported from Japan. The mint itself operated for less than two years before political turbulence — specifically the competing influences of China, Japan, and reformist Korean factions over monetary modernization — effectively shut down domestic production. Most output from this facility is believed to have seen minimal circulation, displaced almost immediately by foreign currency that dominated actual commerce.
