Reverse description A coiled dragon rendered in low relief occupies the central field, its body curling around a flaming pearl at centre. The dragon is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, outside of which a broad border of stylised floral and foliate scrollwork extends to the coin's rim. The overall composition is characteristic of late Qing provincial dragon coinage, with the design executed in a distinctly provincial, somewhat archaic style.

Additional information

Kashgar operated with substantial autonomy from Beijing during the final Qing years, and the coins struck there reflect it — local officials controlled production with minimal metropolitan oversight. This piece dates to 1911, the year the Xinhai Revolution ended the dynasty entirely. The Xuantong era lasted only three years before the child emperor Puyi's abdication, making any coin bearing that reign title a product of imperial collapse in real time. The star-at-centre variety is distinguished from the more common Wu variants by die, a detail that has driven meaningful catalog separation between what are otherwise superficially similar issues from the same facility.
