Cyprus's first coinage as a Crown Colony under Elizabeth II was struck at the Royal Mint in 1955, replacing the George VI issues without any fundamental redesign of the denomination structure — the mil system itself dated back to the British administration of 1879. The 1955–1956 window is tight: Cyprus achieved independence in 1960, after which this portrait and this issuing authority both disappeared from the coinage simultaneously.
