Obverse description Central design features a stylized olive tree in relief, its broad, rounded canopy rising from a gnarled trunk rooted in the lower field. The Arabic legend البنك المركزي التونسي (Central Bank of Tunisia) curves around the upper periphery. Below the tree, the dual date appears horizontally across the lower field, with the Hijri year 1418 to the right and the Gregorian year 1997 to the left, separated by a dash.

Reverse description The large numeral '5' dominates the central field in bold relief, flanked symmetrically on either side by upward-curving olive branches bearing leaves and fruit, their stems meeting at the base of the numeral. The Arabic inscription خمسة مليمات (Five Millimes) is inscribed in flowing script along the lower periphery beneath the branches. The overall composition is clean and uncluttered, reflecting the simple utilitarian design characteristic of Tunisian circulation coinage of this era.
