The 1971 date places this coin squarely in the aftermath of the May 1969 coup that brought Jaafar Nimeiry to power, overthrowing the civilian government and establishing the Revolutionary Command Council. The "Revolution" designation in the series name refers directly to that coup — officially styled the May Revolution — which Sudan's new military government embedded into its coinage as a deliberate assertion of legitimacy.
Nimeiry survived a counter-coup attempt in July 1971, just months before this coin would have entered wider circulation.
