This note was issued under the Bank of Finland's pre-independence authorization but circulated into a radically different political reality. The "Sarja II 1918" designation reflects the White government's reissue of older Bank of Finland stock during the Finnish Civil War — the same physical notes, reprinted or restamped to distinguish White-controlled currency from Red-issued alternatives circulating simultaneously in the south.
Finland declared independence in December 1917; by January 1918 the country was at war with itself. Currency became a political instrument almost immediately, with both sides issuing or reauthorizing notes to assert financial legitimacy.
