| Beschrijving voorzijde | Conjoined busts of two Hohenzollern rulers facing left in high relief: to the rear, the bare-headed effigy of Friedrich I in antique style with flowing curled hair and draped shoulders, and to the fore, the uniformed effigy of Kaiser Wilhelm II wearing a spiked Pickelhaube helmet surmounted by a Prussian eagle finial, with elaborate military collar visible below. The dual portrait commemorates the bicentennial of the Kingdom of Prussia (1701–1901). The encircling legend, divided by the two effigies, reads '+ FRIEDRICH·I·1701·' to the left and 'WILHELM·II·1901·' to the right, separated by raised dots. The design, executed by engraver Otto Schultz, demonstrates a refined neoclassical treatment for the historical portrait contrasting with the contemporary military realism of Wilhelm II. |
