Obverse description Conjoined busts of Kaiser Wilhelm I and Empress Augusta in right-facing profile, Wilhelm I prominently in the foreground with a full beard and bare head, Augusta behind him wearing a diadem and necklace. The legend arcs around the upper periphery reading WILHELM DEUTSCHER KAISER and AUGUSTA DEUTSCHE KAISERIN, divided by the portrait group. The engraver's signature E. WEIGAND SC. appears in small lettering at the truncation. The high-relief portraiture is rendered in a refined academic style characteristic of late nineteenth-century German medallic art.
